Acne could be mild when it comes in the form of blackheads and whiteheads. There are other severe forms of acne, which are cysts and others which may lead to scar formation. The mild form of acne rarely leads to scar formation. The sweat pores allow sweat out of the skin. When the sweat pores become blocked, it results in acne.

There is no cure for acne, but it has several control measures and treatments. There are a lot of over-the-counter treatments for acne, like lotions, creams and gels. It is advisable to consult your physician if you have acne. Severe acne can be treated with antibiotics and some creams that can only be bought with a prescription. When you have acne, you may need to treat it with over-the-counter creams, but in a situation where it refuses to heal, you should consult your physician.

Most people pick their acne when it appears in the form of pimples. This sometimes results in scaring. The formation of acne usually starts from puberty. During puberty, an excess amount of oil is produced due to increased hormone production. The sweat pores are blocked by the excess oil, and this results in acne formation. Also, during pregnancy and menstrual cycle in women, they have been found to produce more acne as a result of increased hormone levels.

Teenagers whose age range is between 11 and 30 are most of the time affected by severe acne, and their symptoms begin to disappear only when they are in their mid-20s.
